Evening Dining

Our evening dining experience starts with canapés served in the bar from 6:30 pm, followed by a set three-course meal that can be adjusted to meet any dietary requirements (if informed in advance). Once the food deposit has been paid, however, your prices are fully secured and will not change, regardless of external factors.

At the end of each season, we as a team look at menus and make changes for the following year.  There are many reasons for this, we learn as we go, we listen to feedback from our guests, we see things throughout the year that inspire us.  Sometimes the adjustments need to be made for operational reasons, a dish might take too long to serve, needs specific equipment or simply looked a mess on the plate.  Some things work, some things don’t some things are just wrong.  A new amended menu is published at the end of each January.  Where a previous menu has been published, our team will try to accommodate choices that you may have made prior to the new menus being published and share experiences and advice where we think appropriate.

Catering for special dietary requirements

We are very aware that food allergies and intolerances can be both life-threatening and cause pain and misery to you and your guests.  All our staff undertake the governments food allergy training, and every effort is made to ensure your visit to Cley Windmill is safe and enjoyable.

It is important that you are aware that our kitchen, food storage area, tea/coffee station contain a high level of items that can cause an allergic reaction.  When we prepare food for someone with an allergy an area of the kitchen is cleaned and sanitised for this task, where the risk is potentially life threating, we remove all food items from the kitchen area and do not cook or prepare with them for the duration of the event, however there is still a risk.  We do not have separate ovens, steamers, fridges, freezers, hot plates, dish washers, sinks or kitchen in which to prepare, cook and serve food for people with food allergies and intolerances.   Because of this we are very happy for guests who have a high level of risk, are likely to become ill, have reactions or are anxious when eating food prepared within kitchens such as ours to provide their own food, cutlery, crockery etc. There are areas in both Dovecote and Cartshed where this can be heated and plated by the guest.

We also understand that some people have religious, lifestyle and personal reasons for not wanting to eat certain types of food.  We are very happy to accommodate you or your guests and respect these choices.  The food that we prepare for these guest’s is prepared, cooked and served separately to prevent risk of contamination and ensure that all food items meet the guest’s requirements and expectations.  Please ensure that we have a full list of requirements well in advance of the event.  Please note we do not have a butcher that is able to provide us with Halal meat.

Catering for fussy eaters; we sympathise that not everyone of your guests might like everything you have chosen for your menu.  We do try to accommodate these people, however that accommodation might be that if they don’t like cauliflower cheese, it is just missed off their plate, or if you have chosen fish and they don’t like fish they could be offered the same menu that as your vegetarian guest or exactly the same dish but with chicken instead.  We hope you and they understand and we will do our best to find a compromise.

Canape menus

Where canapés are purchased separately from the wedding breakfast meal package, they are priced at £2 each. You may choose as many or as few varieties as you wish.

Please note:

  • When catering for guests with special dietary requirements, your canapé selection will be prepared for the full number of guests attending. For example, if you have 25 guests and two require specific dietary alternatives, you will receive 25 canapés in total. The two guests with dietary needs will have their canapés made and plated separately, and these will differ from your chosen varieties.

  • Wherever reasonably possible, we ask that you select your canapé choices based on the full number of guests. For example, if you have 25 guests, you will select 4 varieties (4 × 25 = 100 canapés) at a total cost of £200, rather than selecting mixed quantities such as 15 of one variety, 10 of another, and 20 of another until you reach 100.

Starters

  • Some starters can be adapted to cater for personal taste and dietary requirements, please talk to our Chef and where we can, we will accommodate you.  Examples of changes could include changing the type of bread from walnut bread to rye bread or making the risotto a different flavour.  There may be a surcharge if the changes to the dish incurred additional preparation time or food cost.

  • There are occasions where we may need to make changes or are unable to produce a dish.  Where possible we use local suppliers and seasonal produce.  Examples might include the use of Blakeney leaf, heritage tomatoes, beets etc.  This would be discussed with you at the time you finalise the menu.

Main courses

  • Where you have a personal choice for sides, vegetables, potatoes, rice, polenta, etc we will try to accommodate you, so please ask.  For example, you may prefer cauliflower to broccoli, peas to carrots, or sage and onion stuffing to chestnut stuffing.  If you simply can’t abide parsnips or your all-time favourite potatoes are roast…. You get the idea – ask.

  • When catering for guests with special dietary requirements, we will accommodate where we can, however they will generally be served with items similar to the main menu, for example someone who is gluten free would be given a pigs in blankets made with a gluten free sausage, cooked separately, however it is unlikely that we would be able to make a gluten free Yorkshire pudding so they would not get one.  Please ask to talk to our Chef who will explain what can and can’t be done to ensure all your guests have a meal that they are happy with.
