Looking after the windmill is a labour of love.
The windmill is run on a non-profit basis. All profit generated at the windmill goes directly into maintenance of this wonderful building.
Unlike an average hotel / guest house which needs just a lick of paint every few years, this building needs constant love and attention.
.....and then there are the sails!
These large timber sails bolted onto the top of the building are designed to catch the wind, so they are exposed to all that the North Sea and North Wind can throw at them.
They are now 25 years old and our millwright says we need to prepare to replace them. Here is our (70 year old!) millwright climbing the sails.
The cheapest quote is £25,000 and this has to be fitted in around guests, weddings, parties, thunder storms and crane availability – not to mention planners, listed buildings officers and health and safety.
So..... (and you knew it was coming, but you couldn’t resist reading on to see how I could slip it discretely into the message)...... we would value any contribution you can manage to fund this looming expense.
Our thanks.
